The Gas Forum set world energy trends for the next decade. This year the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (SPIGF) was attended by almost 13 thousand participants from 27 countries of the world. The business program included more than 70 events, as part of the exhibition program, 470 companies presented the latest developments for the gas industry. The work of the SPIGF was covered by representatives of more than 100 media outlets.

SPIGF 2021 demonstrated the effectiveness of the new format of business events: the combination of online and offline meetings provided powerful synergy and increased audience coverage in a pandemic.

Over the four days of the Forum, dozens of discussions, meetings, presentations and round tables with top officials of the largest Russian and foreign companies, as well as representatives of state authorities took place.

The main event of the Forum was the Plenary Session "Natural Gas: New Challenges and Solutions in the Global Energy" , during which the participants discussed the situation with gas supplies to Europe: due to rising gas prices, the situation in European Union countries remain difficult, while the demand for Russian fuel is growing.

As explained by Elena Burmistrova, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee , there is a shortage of gas on the European market due to the general recovery of the economic situation and energy consumption. Also, the forced refusal of the European countries from coal in power generation, to which the consumers were pushed by the rise in the cost of emission quotas, played a role. “Another reason is the drop in production at wind and hydropower facilities,” says the speaker.

In this regard, the demand for gas in European markets is now increased, its prices have risen sharply. “What seemed fantastic some time ago has become reality” , - noted Elena Burmistrova.

According to the head of the Austrian oil and gas company OMV AG, Alfred Stern , gas prices have not been so high since 1981. At the same time, the growth in demand creates tension in various markets.

Experts unanimously agreed that natural gas continues to play a critical role in the energy sector.

Thus, according to Chairman of the World Energy Council Jean-Marie Dauger , gas should be used as an intermediate fuel when switching to renewable energy sources.

As explained by President of the International Gas Union Joe Kang , when implementing programs to decarbonize the economy in a number of countries, the use of natural gas will play a key role, and it is necessary to build a harmonious balance when using certain energy sources. < / p>

Director of Integrated Gas Projects, Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Solutions, Member of the Executive Committee of Royal Dutch Shell plc Maarten Wetselaar noted that oil and gas will play an important role in the energy sector for a long time to come. gas will have more advantages.

Another key discussion took place during the Plenary Session "Natural Gas - Motor Fuel for Sustainable Development of Regions" . The participants discussed the development of the NGV fuel market and noted that in the future until 2030 it will be the most demanded type in the transport sector. According to Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC Gazprom Viktor Zubkov , the transport industry has no future without gas. "Starting from the present moment and up to 2030, there is simply no better fuel for transport than natural gas - methane and LNG" , - the speaker emphasized.

As part of the Closed Meeting on Technological Development of PJSC Gazprom , the participants discussed import substitution in the production of equipment for the gas industry, which allows the company to save significant funds when purchasing equipment. According to Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee Vitaly Markelov , thanks to the development of import substitution in the field of gas equipment, Gazprom and its structures have saved about 16 billion rubles.

Exhibition and business programs covered all areas of the oil and gas industry: from geological exploration and gas production to transportation, consumption and processing, as well as innovative projects of import substitution in the field of equipment for the gas industry. The environmental agenda, developments using artificial intelligence, and issues of work with personnel received wide coverage.

More than 30% of the events of the business program were held with the participation of international experts from Belgium, Switzerland, UAE, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, USA, Norway, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Jordan, France, Great Britain. < / p>
