On March 30, as part of the business program of the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum 2019, experts from the NII KPU took part in the plenary session “Space as a competitive advantage. Investment potential and infrastructure ”.

Russia is a country with huge spaces and a relatively small population. For a long time, the spatial factor was rather a negative factor for the Russian economy. But today, at a new stage of development, space opens up new opportunities. Large-scale investments in infrastructure and transport — 10 trillion rubles in priority national projects — should give a serious multiplicative effect to the entire economy, primarily due to the removal of transport barriers. In addition, the new transport infrastructure will create unprecedented opportunities for the development of land and sea transit between China and Europe. Russia may become the beneficiary of the increasing integration of the Eurasian economy, which in the next ten years will account for about two-thirds of the global value added.

“The priority for the Russian economy is not the acceleration of economic growth for several years, but the achievement of sustainable balanced growth. The world economy today creates headwinds for this, including those associated with the risks of global inhibition. Under these conditions, Russia faces the problem of finding resources that can compensate for increasing risks. Space becomes one of such resources, ”the session moderator, Chairman of the Expert Council of KEF’2019 Mikhail Dmitriev emphasized.

In the framework of the plenary session, Javier Sala-I-Martin, professor of economics at Columbia University, author of the index of global competitiveness, presented his report. He spoke about the factors of growth in the productivity of national economies, stressing that Russia needs to develop a culture of entrepreneurship. “Russian scientists own many patents, but the level of development of Russia in the field of innovation is not impressive. These ideas are often not embodied in business and therefore have no economic effect, ”explained the professor.

Javier Sala-i-Martin also noted that the Fourth Industrial Revolution is fraught with a high degree of uncertainty and unpredictability of global economic processes. Under these conditions, governments are required to be flexible and actively support business cooperation with educational institutions. “We need competitive regions, competitive business, competitive human capital,” the speaker said. “Therefore, it is necessary to ensure cooperation between regional authorities, the central government, business representatives and representatives of education. Together we will create the future. ”
